Steve Jobs

About The Book :

Steve Jobs' first and only authorized biography

Steve Jobs, who transformed the worlds of personal computing, music and mobile phones, died on Wednesday, 5th October, 2011 at the age of 56 after a years-long battle with pancreatic cancer. The co-founder of Apple Inc, one of the world's great entrepreneurs, was surrounded by his wife and immediate family when he died in Palo Alto, California. This book is, his only biography.

Based on more than forty interviews with Jobs conducted over two years as well as interviews with more than a hundred family members, friends, adversaries, competitors, and colleagues. Walter Isaacson has written a riveting story of the roller-coaster life and searingly intense personality of a creative entrepreneur whose passion for perfection and ferocious drive revolutionized six industries: personal computers, animated movies, music, phones, tablet computing, and digital publishing.

At a time when America is seeking ways to sustain its innovative edge, and when societies around the world are trying to build digital-age economies, Jobs stands as the ultimate icon of inventiveness and applied imagination. He knew that the best way to create value in the twenty-first century was to connect creativity with technology. He built a company where leaps of the imagination were combined with remarkable feats of engineering.

Although Jobs cooperated with this book, he asked for no control over what was written nor even the right to read it before it was published. He put nothing off-limits. He encouraged the people he knew to speak honestly. And Jobs speaks candidly, sometimes brutally so, about the people he worked with and competed against. His friends, foes, and colleagues provide an unvarnished view of the passions, perfectionism, obsessions, artistry, devilry, and compulsion for control that shaped his approach to business and the innovative products that resulted.

Driven by demons, Jobs could drive those around him to fury and despair. But his personality and products were interrelated, just as Apple’s hardware and software tended to be, as if part of an integrated system. His tale is instructive and cautionary, filled with lessons about innovation, character, leadership, and values.

This book contains 656 pages plus a 16 page photo insert.

The Steves Job way is a working biography of Steve’s functioning at the work place and snippets about his life written by Senior Vice President Jay Elliot of Apple Computer who at one point was reporting to Steve Jobs and William L Simon.

It potray’s Steve as only his working associates knew him and the resultant book is a personal account of a man, who loved his music loud and found the devil in the details, used to his advantage and through sheer stubborn hot headedness would ultimately drive the company to the best and worst of times.

Especially when every single one of the $7800 costing Apple III computers would be recalled to a due to a faulty cable that cost less than thirty cents. Thus, along with real experiences and incidents merged with football tactic analogies and a frame of mind that freshness personified, Jay Elliot brings to us Steve’s intuitive style of working at creating a product driven business that defied even the laws of business taught propagated by the likes of Ivy League Business Schools.

The importance of hiring A Players and working on the right product vs. launching on time. Evangelizing innovation and recovering and maintaining momentum when everything looks like its ready to perish are just some of the important business values that you could adopt.

Honest and compelling, its revelations of the good the bad and the ugly that was Steve jobs and his thinking is laid for all to see and it’s the perfect read for someone burning with passion and desire to carve a niche for themselves. Whether its emulating an iconic business figure or avoiding his mistakes.

Lovely book, Posted on: February 01, 2012
I enjoyed reading this. I am a long time die hard apple fan and use only Macs (no Windows). It was very sad day when Mr Steve Jobs died, I felt very sad. I read this just for him and I am not sure if Apple will be successful in future without him.

Only Steve jobs can advise one like "Your time is limited, so don't waste it living someone else's life. Don't be trapped by dogma — which is living with the results of other people's thinking. Don't let the noise of others' opinions drown out your own inner voice. And most important, have the courage to follow your heart and intuition. They somehow already know what you truly want to become. Everything else is secondary." He remains a great MAN indeed in the core of all good minds !

I was disappointed with this book. Many of us were expecting this book to reveal the style and working of the great man. It instead claims that Steve was a products of many things, none his own and that he was a product of the circumstances around him. Thus it claims that Steve JObs is a collective product of the lives of Steve Woznaik, Mike, Paul and Clara Jobs and many others. This book would break any budding entrepreneur's heart wishing to take a lesson from Steve's life. Because this book as such is not about him. It is more of an analysis, deducing why Steve Jobs was successful- which people and circumstances made him so.. The Steve Jobs as a person on his own right who we see as innovative and great person is totally absent in the pages in this book. Instead a very disturbing picture of Steve is presented. Perhaps that accounts for the controversies. Isaacson is more of a historian deducing reasoning and less of a biographer.

A perfect biography for one of the greatest artist and visionary. Shows well the better side as well as the dark side of Steve Jobs. Certainly a must read for people who wondered what makes Steve and Apple so special ? and for those who still think why our Computers are in a certain way.

Steve Jobs biography is something has to be read by every one especially who are otherwise wasting their time studying Universities. Innovation is an outcome of passion and not something coming out of reading books, memorizing definitions or writing examinations.
