The Secret Of The Nagas

Much awaited Book 2 in Shiva Trilogy after the huge success of The Immortals of Meluha

Today, He is a God.

4000 years ago, He was just a man.

The hunt is on. The sinister Naga warrior has killed his friend Brahaspati and now stalks his wife Sati. Shiva, the Tibetan immigrant who is the prophesied destroyer of evil, will not rest till he finds his demonic adversary. His vengeance and the path to evil will lead him to the door of the Nagas, the serpent people. Of that he is certain.

The evidence of the malevolent rise of evil is everywhere. A kingdom is dying as it is held to ransom for a miracle drug. A crown prince is murdered. The Vasudevs – Shiva’s philosopher guides – betray his unquestioning faith as they take the aid of the dark side. Even the perfect empire, Meluha is riddled with a terrible secret in Maika, the city of births. Unknown to Shiva, a master puppeteer is playing a grand game.

In a journey that will take him across the length and breadth of ancient India, Shiva searches for the truth in a land of deadly mysteries – only to find that nothing is what it seems.

Fierce battles will be fought. Surprising alliances will be forged. Unbelievable secrets will be revealed in this second book of the Shiva Trilogy, the sequel to the #1 national bestseller, The Immortals of Meluha.

Book 2 of the Shiva trilogy takes up from the point where Shiva is dashing to save Sati at the end of The Immortals of Meluha. Does he succeed? His archenemy seems to be winning every encounter. All Shiva knows for sure is that the Chandravanshis aren't evil. But then, neither are the Suryavanshis. So who or what is evil? And who is the mysterious Naga that stalks his family? What does he want? What is The Secret of the Nagas? Read it and you will get to know.

Often I wondered if Greek mythology can be so much discussed, why not Indian mythology; surely many times diverse, rich in imagination & off coarse, Indian philosophy --- unmatched in the world!! Amish has certainly answered to my plea and delivered a fiction that is truly Indian. I came across the first book of Shiva Trilogy --- 'Immortals of Meluha' featuring God Shiva (from rear angle) on the cover and some strange name 'MELUHA'!!! I bought it out of curiosity and the ROI has perhaps the best I ever spent on any book in English. Truly remarkable book that one was and I ADVICE buy the combo immediately as that one is required for understanding this book. According to the story; all the Gods/Godesses were mortal once, their deeds ('Karma' as Amish describes it) put them in a position so that people worshipped them. Though he posses some divine powers (thought sending & receiving for example while talking to a 'Vasudev', the philosopher guide of the Neelkanth, revealed in this book) Shiva is very much human who gets angry on sad demise of a friend Drapuka; loves to entertain the people by his supreme dancing abilities (Like Nataraj) at Kashi; himself cooks for his pregnant wife. But again he is a very truthful who is committed to fight the evil, unabashed to apologise for his error. The Naga hunts Shiva's wife Sati. But what does he seek? He does not kill her. His goal is to confront her for the injustice she did to him, or did she??? The nephew of the Naga Queen is a just person who also help broker peace, fight for justice!! He loves all, even those who abandoned him. He craves for the affection that is birthright to all. Who is he? Shiva do not have to find the Naga, it comes to him and awaits verdict yet he is unable to seek justice for Brahaspati, his brother. Or, Does he really require to have justice for Brahaspati?? Thrilling suspense is oozing in the pages of 'The Secret of the Nagas'. As the story revolves around the entire lands of Ancient India,

The much awaited book by Amishh Tripathi is out! "The Secret of the Nagas" is the second book of the Shiva Trilogy, the sequel to the national bestseller, "The Immortals of Meluha". "The Secret of the Nagas" is as thrilling, if not more, as the first book. Amish uses a narrative style to capture attention and takes the reader through a gripping plot of events and strong characters. The book is an apt sequel to the first book and focuses on Shiva's search for evil and his want to destroy it, only to find that nothing is what it seems. Amish shares his views about many concepts within the story especially highlighting the balance between good versus evil. The characters are mythological but the tale is believable and a sure page-turner. The prominent character of this book is 'The Naga with the serpent Aum symbol' and the book reveals the secret about this Naga. Packed with history, mythology, fiction and plenty of action, the book is a compelling read. A definite recommendation!

secret of the nagas is an enchanting journey into the crevices of indian mythology. amish holds the reader by his collar and keeps him held to the book till the last word. this book is the one sequel apart from harry potter, which i had started looking forward to before even completing the first book. it just keeps you riveted all throughout and is simply un-putdownable. amish has good knowledge of indian mythology and history and has mixed the facts and his vivid imagination excellently to bring up a magical tale of values, principles, betrayal, love, bravery and politics.

The Secret of the Nagas revolves around a person known as Shiva and his journey to find out the Naga who had killed Brahaspati. He finds out that he has also to save Sita from the Naga. On the way, he finds that he has to battle with evils everywhere and then gets to know that a kingdom had been held to ransom due to an unknown drug which cures people. Later, he finds out that this drug is available only at Panchavati and then wants to know how this drug had gained access to this kingdom and travels across India to find out the truth. Later both Shiva and Sita embark on a journey to find out more about this drug and then comes to know that Brahaspati had been alive and had not been killed by the Naga. A great book indeed.

A surprising twist awaits you in the last chapter that will keep you wondering about the motives of many characters and waiting for third book. Anyways, you have to read through it to get to the other end of the story where the book three awaits.

After reading book one of Shiva trilogy, The Immortals of Meluha, I was very excited to dive into the second part. Since I had ordered the set of two, there was almost zero wait time before jumping into it. The book continues the promising story and narrative into the better part of novel. Author has successfully compiled the mythological events into an action/adventure storyline. At times it gets so realistic and logical that one starts feeling that all the stories he has heard till now were senseless. Introduction of new characters is seamless and author has done a commendable job. Introduction of elephant headed Ganesha and deformed Naga queen is handled exceptionally well. Novel carries on smoothly till the middle and then suddenly the narrative hits a low point. Shiva's involvement with Vasudevas & his fixation with Brihspati irritates at times. Shiva seems very attached to Brihaspati and further devastated by his death. The development of any such close relationship was neither displayed nor developed during the course of two books. Hence, at times reader fails to relate to Shiva's anger towards suspected murderers and his anger towards Naga clan. Another annoying part of this section of the story is that there is not a single major character except Parvateshawar(who by now also believes in prophecy), who sees Shiva as who he really is, that is a Mortal like everyone. I simply can't accept the fact there is absolutely zero resistance to Neelkanth. Last chapter in book one was titled "Question of Questions" and book two it "Secret of All Secrets". I guess the final chapter in Book three would be "Answer of All Answers".:-D Verdict: Although the Magical multiverse continues, not as entertaining and gripping as Book one. A surprising twist awaits you in the last chapter that will keep you wondering about the motives of many characters and waiting for third book.
